Max Herm

The electrician and communist Max Herm was born in Brandenburg an der Havel on 11 December 1899. He was a member of the Reichstag for the KPD from 1932 to 30 March 1933. In April 1933 the SA Field Police brought Max Herm to the SA Prison in General-Pape-Strasse, where he was severely maltreated. He was subsequently interned in different prisons and in the Sonnenburg, Lichtenburg and Buchenwald concentration camps until April 1939. In July 1944 he was again deported, this time to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp. After the Second World War Max Herm was appointed mayor of the city of Brandenburg an der Havel. He died there on 7 April 1982.
